Carpet Cleaning FAQ — Encino, CA
Common questions from homeowners in Encino and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.
How long until the carpet is dry and we can walk on it again?
Encino works in our favor here. Indoor humidity in the southern San Fernando Valley sits low most of the year, so hot-water extraction in a typical bedroom or hallway is usually dry to the touch in a few hours. Socks on clean floors are fine almost right away; put heavy furniture back and lay rugs down once the pad underneath is dry too. Winter nights run cool and damp and the Nov-Mar rain stretch slows things, so we bring air movers and crack windows when the weather cooperates.

Walk me through what actually happens when you show up.
First we look at the carpet with you and point out what we think will lift and what probably won't. Then we move what furniture needs moving, dry-vacuum the pile to pull out loose grit, and pretreat traffic lanes and spots so the chemistry has time to work. Extraction comes next, hot water and solution in, soil and solution back out, with edges and corners done by hand. We groom the pile, set up air movers where the room needs them, and do a final walk with you before we pack up.

Hot-water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning. What's the difference and which one do I need?
Hot-water extraction is what we run on most jobs. It flushes the pile and pulls the dirty water back out, which matters in Encino because the dry air here packs fine dust and grit down near the backing where surface methods never reach. Shampooing agitates a foam into the fibers and has its place on heavily greased commercial loop, though it can leave residue if nobody rinses it. Low-moisture dry cleaning is for wool, certain jute-backed area rugs, and occupied apartment units along Ventura Blvd where the carpet has to be back in service fast.

What's a sensible cleaning schedule for a house like mine?
Once a year is the floor for an average household. Push it to every six or eight months if you have dogs, kids, or a hillside home where foot traffic tracks in dry soil off the Santa Monica Mountains foothills. Santa Ana wind events matter more than people expect, since they drive dust and ash through every gap in the building and it settles straight into the pile. If your carpet looks fine but the vacuum keeps filling up fast, it's past due.

What makes one job cost more than another?
Square footage is the starting point, but it isn't the whole story. A 1950s postwar ranch with wall-to-wall running continuously through bedrooms and halls cleans faster per foot than a chopped-up hillside custom with stairs, landings, and closets. Heavy pet contamination means we're treating the pad and subfloor, not just the face fiber, and that adds time. Stairs are priced separately, wool and delicate Karastan or Masland goods need slower work, and third-floor walkups along the boulevard take longer to set up. We look at the actual floors and give you a firm number before anything gets wet.

Do I need to clear the rooms first?
No. We move sofas, chairs, coffee tables, nightstands, and dining sets as part of the job and set them back on blocks or tabs so damp carpet doesn't stain from wood or metal feet. We leave beds, large wall units, pianos, and anything on a floating or glass shelf where they are, and clean around them. If you want a bed moved, tell us when you book so we can plan the time. Clearing small items off the floor ahead of us, toys, shoes, laundry baskets, speeds everything up.

Be honest. What will you get out, and what's staying?
Food, mud, coffee, most pet accidents, cooking grease, and general traffic soil come out routinely. Stainmaster and treated Shaw or Mohawk nylon releases spills well if nobody has scrubbed them in with a brush first. What usually stays: bleach and benzoyl peroxide marks, where color is gone rather than covered; older red dye from sports drinks and kids' medicine; some pet urine that has already bleached the fiber; and permanent ink or paint. We'll tell you on the walkthrough which spots we expect to beat and which ones we're only going to improve.

Will any of this bother the kids or the cat?
Our standard solutions are low-odor, fragrance-light, and rinse out of the carpet rather than sitting on top of it. Keep pets and small children off the floor while we work, mostly because of hoses and warm equipment, and let the carpet dry before they're back down on it. Enzyme treatments for urine are biological and break down on their own. If anyone in the house has asthma or a chemical sensitivity, say so when you call and we'll go fragrance-free throughout.

Can you clean the couch, the area rugs, and the tile while you're here?
Yes, and bundling saves you a second trip. We clean upholstery, sectionals, dining chairs, and mattresses, and we handle area rugs either in place or picked up for off-site washing when a wool or silk piece needs a full bath. Tile and grout work is extraction too, and it's common in Encino homes where the entry and kitchen are hard surface and the bedrooms and hallways are wall-to-wall over pad. Mention it when you book so we load the right tools.

Can you come today, and how far do you travel?
Same-day slots open up often, especially midweek, and we hold time for move-outs and flooded carpet. We cover Encino and the surrounding southern San Fernando Valley within the City of Los Angeles: the valley floor south of the 101, the mid-century tracts north and south of Ventura Blvd, the hillside custom homes up against the Santa Monica Mountains foothills, and the 1960s-1980s stucco apartment and condo buildings along the boulevard corridors. Call early in the day for the best shot at an afternoon arrival. Tell us the rooms and roughly the square footage and we'll give you a window.
