Why does my carpet ripple again a few months after stretching?

Usually because it was re-stretched, not power-stretched. A knee kicker only pushes slack a few feet. It does not reset the carpet across a whole room. A power stretcher braces off one wall and pulls the backing tight, then the carpet gets hooked onto fresh tack strip. If the original installer stretched with a kicker alone, the ripples come back in traffic lanes first.

Encino jobs are mostly two kinds. Postwar tract bedrooms and halls in nylon or polyester cut pile, often on slab. And builder plush or olefin Berber in 1970s-2000s condos. Olefin backing relaxes easily and shows buckling across doorways. Berber loops also snag during stretching, so the trim cuts have to be clean and seamed, not just tucked.

Furniture has to move. Beds, dressers, bookcases, all of it, room by room. Tack strip along slab edges is nailed into concrete and sometimes crumbles when the carpet comes up. Replacing it is normal, not an upsell.

Some carpets are not worth stretching. Dry-rotted backing under west-facing glass tears when pulled. Pad soaked with pet urine on slab needs replacing underneath anyway. We will tell you when the stretch buys you nothing.
