Rug Cleaning in Encino, CA

Why Encino rugs break down in the foundation, not the face

Dry grit blows down off the Santa Monica Mountains and settles through pile to the rug's foundation. That dust is angular mineral, not lint. Feet grind it against wool and nylon all year. The result is traffic-lane graying, cut fiber, not surface dirt. Vacuuming reaches the top third. The rest stays until the rug is dusted dry, before any water touches it.

Hand-knotted and wool-blend rugs in the Encino hills get handled off-site. Dye bleed testing first, then pH-controlled washing. Wool hates alkaline cleaners and high heat. Synthetic area rugs over hardwood and tile in older homes are often cleaned in place, with a barrier under the rug so no moisture reaches the floor finish.

Pet urine is the honest problem. On slab homes it passes straight through and sits under the rug. Ammonia odor sharpens in summer heat. We lift the rug and read both sides. Cleaning only the face is why the smell comes back.

Summer adds sunscreen and body oil from pool traffic. Fall fire events leave smoke odor bedded in the pile. Olefin holds oily residue and resoils quickly without a residue-free rinse. Drying is usually same-day; a closed-up house gets air movers so the backing doesn't sour.
